Hello/Goodbye Songs

Having a consistent opening and closing song for every storytime is a really fantastic way to help the kids know what's going on. Plus, consistency means they'll learn the song and be able to sing along and do the actions with you.

*Fantastic song to help kids remember the rules
**Great for baby time or younger kids' storytime

HELLO SONGS:

The Hello Song
(Tune: London Bridges Falling Down)
Hi, hello and how are you
How are you
How are you
Hi, hello and how are you
How are you today?

(...Hi, hello and clap your hands)
(...Hi, hello and stomp your feet)

Clap and Sing Hello!
(Tune: Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With all our friends at storytime,
We clap and sing hello!

(We wave and sing hello...)
(We stomp and sing hello...)

If You'd Like to Read a Book*
(Tune: If You're Happy and You Know It)
If you'd like to read a book, clap your hands.
If you'd like to read a book, clap your hands.
If you'd like to read a book, listen up and take a look.
If you'd like to read a book, clap your hands.

(If you'd like to read a book, stamp your feet...)
(If you'd like to read a book, sit and say shh!...)

If You’re Ready*
(Tune: If You’re Happy and You Know It)
If you’re ready for a story, take a seat
If you’re ready for a story, take a seat
Clap your hands and stomp your feet
Make your hands all nice and neat
If you’re ready for a story, take a seat

Say Hello To Your Toes**
(Tune: London Bridge)
Say hello to your toes.
Hello, toes. Hello, toes.
Say hello to your toes.
Hello, toes!

(Say hello to your knees...)
(Say hello to your tummy...)
(Say hello to your hands...)
(Say hello to your head...)
(Say hello to your friends...)

Hands Go Up (Opening)*
(Tune: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
Hands go up and hands go down,
I can turn around and round.
I can jump upon two shoes.
I can listen; so can you.
I can sit, I’ll show you how.
Storytime is starting now.

Hello Hello
(From Super Simple Songs)
Hello, hello! Can you clap your hands?
Hello, hello! Can you clap your hands?
Can you stretch up high?
Can you touch your toes?
Can you turn around?
Can you say, "Hello!"?

(...Can you stamp your feet?)

GOODBYE SONGS:

Our Hands Say Thank You
Our hands say thank you
With a clap, clap, clap!
Our feet say thank you
With a tap, tap, tap!
Clap, clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Now we roll our hands
And wave goodbye!

Hands Go Up (Closing)
(Tune: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
Hands go up and hands go down.
I can turn round and round.
I can jump upon two shoes.
I can clap and so can you!
I can wave, I’ll show you how.
Storytime is done for now

Open, Shut Them**
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Raise your hands up high.
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Wave and say goodbye.

We Wave Goodbye Like This
(Tune: Farmer in the Dell)
We wave goodbye like this.
